Why are some white collar offense prosecuted in state courts and other in federal courts?

White collar offenses can be complicated and require extensive resources, expertise and investigation
to prosecute the culprit. In case where there is huge monetary loss the federal authorities may get involve
in investigation and prosecution of the case in federal court unless no federal law was violated. There are
also cases where the culprit may be prosecuted either in federal court or state court on the other hand,
some cases may be prosecuted in federal court although they may also violate state law.
