Intel 8th generation desktop version processors called Coffee Lake, have been revealed. The official announcement will likely happen on October 5th, 2017. Prices of the Coffee Lake processors, Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7, range from $117 to $359.
Coffee Lake desktop version is a welcome move because it brings more cores to all its processors. In particular, the basic i3 processor now has four cores instead of two and i5 processor gets 6 cores from the earlier 4 cores. However, Core i7 processor retains 6 cores but does get hyper-threading.
Intel claims that the Coffee Lake processors can deliver 40% more performance than the 7th generation processors, termed as Kaby Lake. In order to make these processors work in the computer, users need Intel Z360 chipset-based motherboard.
In August 2017, the company announced the 8th generation processors for laptops. Laptop manufacturers have lined up their premium models with these processors such as Dell XPS 13 (Core i5 or Core i7), Lenovo Yoga 920, Asus Zenbook 3 Deluxe and Acer Nitro Spin 5.
