Google Pixel 2 launch on October 4th 2017

Google may likely host an event on October 4th to launch the much-anticipated Google Pixel 2. A billboard was pictured with G logo (Google) that mentions that the device will have Google branding. Another noteworthy fact is that Google launched their first Pixel smartphone last year on October 4th which means, it is most likely Google Pixel 2 launch.

With regard to models and variants, expect Google to launch Pixel 2 with a 5-inch screen and Pixel 2 XL with a large 5.5-inch screen. The hoarding does hint upon Google Assistant in the upcoming Pixel smartphone. So, we can expect some new tasks or improvizations in how we interact with Google Assistant.

Coming to the Pixel 2, earlier leaks showed a display like in LG G6 with higher screen-to-body ratio than before.

Another leaked image, that surfaced the internet recently, showed a common design with thick bezels on top and bottom and a single rear camera like the first Pixel smartphone.

If this is the final design, the plain, unexciting and old-school design may turn off potential buyers away. And this is will likely happen because iPhone X is out and Google can’t compete with Apple launching a new model with last year’s design.

Looks aside, we can expect the Pixel 2 to have more AR support by capitalizing on the progress made by developers in Google DayDream platform. This is one domain where Google may lead Apple, only when Pixel 2 has more powerful hardware and lot of AR apps from the launch day itself.

Photos taken using Google Pixel by DXOMark

Google Pixel camera was touted to be the most highly-rated camera by DXOMark when launched. So, we can expect the upcoming Pixel version to have improved camera over last year’s camera.

Last year, Google offered all its Pixel customers to have unlimited storage of photos and videos without compromising on revenues. This was a stand-out feature when announced, and  something that gave users freedom to store as much without spending on cloud storage subscriptions.

With regard to performance, we expect the Google Pixel 2 to feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and Android Oreo out of the box. The new software should help keep the exciting factor high because one of the major reasons why Google Pixel phones are bought, is because of latest Android softwares that the phone comes with.

Android Oreo brings Picture-in-Picture, Notification Dots, Android Instant Apps, Redesigned Emojis, Autofill (login credentials). Performance improvements in Oreo include two-times faster boot up time and background activity limitations.

Overall, the Google Pixel 2 will be looked up for Android Oreo, camera capabilities and advancements in AI (Google Assistant). Let’s wait till October 4th on what Google has to offer.
