What can I do when I do not hear the sound through the headphone jack but through the speakers of my Asus laptop?

I plugged in the new Turtle Beach headphone, which I bought on sale, into the audio jack of my Asus laptop, the sound is playing through the speakers and not the headset. Tell me what I should do to hear through the speakers. I know that there is nothing wrong with my headphones as I tested it.

I have got a new windows 8 laptop but when I plug my headset in sound still comes out of the built-in laptop speakers. I went to control panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Manage audio devices and there were three inputs/outputs named AMD HDMI Output, Speakers and Headphones and communications headphones. The speakers and headphones were ticked but the others were not and I think one of them is for my headset. Any help?

  • Go to Control Panel.

  • Select Hardware and Sound.

  • Then click on Sound.

  • Now, click on Manage audio devices.

  • Then do a right click to show two boxes, where you would have to tick the two boxes, Show disabled devices and Show Disconnected devices.

  • Then plug in the headphone into the headphone jack of the laptop and not the mic jack.

  • Then keep the headphone as the default device in the sound/playback devices.
