Coming to the specifications apart from the Snapdragon 835 processor, Exynos 8895 can power the S8 and S8 Plus. With Adreno 540 GPU, 4GB RAM and 64GB with micro-SD slot, the S8 will be a power-packed performance smartphone when launched. Interestingly, the modem to be equipped in S8 will support a blasting 1 Gbps speed when you download data.

S8 is expected to have VR capabilities with a dual-camera setup and 4K video support. On the software front, Samsung S8 will come with Android 7.1 Nougat, a refreshed TouchWiz Ui. Wireless charging, biometric features like face recognition is also expected. Dual SIM is something which at least many are expecting in the upcoming iPhone. Further a new 5-inch variant can be expected in between the 4.7-inch and the 5.5-inch variants.

Apple may launch the iPhone 8 with the latest processor and improved camera hardware. While a dual camera setup for the iPhone 8 Plus can’t be ruled out, there can also be hardware for VR experiences.

Google Pixel 2

Google Pixel and Pixel XL were the most desirable Android phones in 2016. With latest Snapdragon 821 processor and an acclaimed camera, Pixel was more appealing the Nexus series.

This year, the Pixel 2 is expected to arrive in two version with difference in screen size. The internal code name for these devices, muskie and walleye, the phones are expected to be powered by the latest Snapdragon processors or we won’t be surprised if they get Intel processors. That’s because, Google has been testing out Intel chips too.

Like Apple, Google Pixel 2 may lose out on standard 3.5 mm audio jack and instead provide, wireless headsets. To add ruggedness, the upcoming Google phones can be water-resistant.

On the camera front, Pixel 2 camera setup would focus on improved low-light photography, But that may not definitely translate to increase in megapixel count in the hardware. So, we can expect the same 12.3 MP camera.

There’s a mid-range Pixel 2B (with internal code name taimen) in works, that can be launched a few months after Pixel 2 launch. The mid-range phone would be the affordable model when launched.

OnePlus has been providing value-for-money smartphones including the latest OnePlus 3T. The upcoming smartphone from the Chinese brand, could be named as One Plus 5 instead of the logical name OnePlus 4 because, 4 is considered unlucky in China.

Names apart, the latest smartphone is expected to feature either Snapdragon 830 or 835 processor and 6GB or 8GB RAM.

The display could be of 5.3-inch size and for the first time, OnePlus might launch 2K AMOLED glass-made body instead of the 1080p in the models launched so far. Camera setup may consists of 23 MP shooter at rear and 16 MP shooter at front.

Price and Launch Period

Among these models, the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be launched on March 29th, 2017 and price could be about $850. LG G6 is expected to launch on April 7th, 2017. Apple’s iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will be launched during the September event.

OnePlus 4 is expected during the second half of 2017 with price of about $420. Similarly, Google Pixel 2 may see its launch during September - October 2017 with a price of about $700.

Conclusion

Clearly, premium smartphones of 2017 are going to be a lot bigger than previous years which had a mini 5-inch display version and a plus 5.5-inch display version.

Though the 2017 flagship smartphones are not radically new like we don’t get a foldable display, performance and camera quality remains to be the prime focus area amongst smartphone manufacturers. Are you ready with your savings?
