Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus
Samsung is gearing up to launch the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus on March 29th, 2017. Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will be equipped with the latest Snapdragon 835 processor.
Samsung Galaxy S8 would feature a 5.8-inch screen which is quite big and surprisingly, different strategy when compared with S7 and S6 which are 5.1-inch screens. Similarly, the S8 Plus gets a big 6.2-inch screen as against the current S7 Plus that features 5.5-inch screen.
S8 is expected to feature a dual-curved-edge screen and a glass-metal frame. The phone’s front will have a maximum display, which the company may refer as infinite display. Instead of a traditional home button, the S8 may feature iris scanner like the Note 7.
Coming to the specifications apart from the Snapdragon 835 processor, Exynos 8895 can power the S8 and S8 Plus. With Adreno 540 GPU, 4GB RAM and 64GB with micro-SD slot, the S8 will be a power-packed performance smartphone when launched. Interestingly, the modem to be equipped in S8 will support a blasting 1 Gbps speed when you download data.
S8 is expected to have VR capabilities with a dual-camera setup and 4K video support. On the software front, Samsung S8 will come with Android 7.1 Nougat, a refreshed TouchWiz Ui. Like Siri, Cortana and Google Assistant, the S8 and S8 Plus are expected to come with Bixby, personal assistant from Samsung.
Apple iPhone 8 and 8 Plus
Apple is planning to launch the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. There are many rumors which suggest that the iPhone 8 will come with a fingerprint sensor incorporated into the touchscreen display, and the body will be made of glass. This is based on the patent images which showed IR diodes on the display.
Wireless charging, biometric features like face recognition is also expected. Dual SIM is something which at least many are expecting in the upcoming iPhone. Further a new 5-inch variant can be expected in between the 4.7-inch and the 5.5-inch variants.

With regard to software, Android 8.0 or Android O may debut in Pixel 2. People who are looking for an affordable Pixel 2 price, may be disappointed because the company’s top management official has been reported to have said that the phones will stay premium and price could be $700 or so.
On the camera front, Pixel 2 camera setup would focus on improved low-light photography, But that may not definitely translate to increase in megapixel count in the hardware. So, we can expect the same 12.3 MP camera.
There’s a mid-range Pixel 2B (with internal code name taimen) in works, that can be launched a few months after Pixel 2 launch. The mid-range phone would be the affordable model when launched.
LG unveiled all details about the G6 expect for the price and launch date. The G6 features a 5.7-inch Quad HD+ resolution display with 18:9 aspect ratio.
Like the upcoming S8, the body to screen ratio is 80%. So, without increasing the body size, we get maximum screen size in this smartphone. There will be two body colors, Black and Platinum to choose from.
The camera setup consists of two 13MP shooters with 125° wide angle lens. The front camera consists of 100° wide angle lens camera which can take snaps using gestures.
The body is IP-68 certified, water resistant (up to 1 meter for 30 minutes) and materials are MIL-STD-810G military standard, so the G6 is tougher than its predecessor.
On the software front, the LG G6 can get Android Nougat and Google Assistant built in, like the Google Pixel phones.
OnePlus has been providing value-for-money smartphones including the latest OnePlus 3T. The upcoming smartphone from the Chinese brand, could be named as One Plus 5 instead of the logical name OnePlus 4 because, 4 is considered unlucky in China.
Names apart, the latest smartphone is expected to feature either Snapdragon 830 or 835 processor and 6GB or 8GB RAM.
The display could be of 5.3-inch size and for the first time, OnePlus might launch 2K AMOLED glass-made body instead of the 1080p in the models launched so far. Camera setup may consists of 23 MP shooter at rear and 16 MP shooter at front.
Price and Launch Period
Among these models, the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be launched on March 29th, 2017 and price could be about $850. LG G6 is expected to launch on April 7th, 2017. Apple’s iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will be launched during the September event.
OnePlus 4 is expected during the second half of 2017 with price of about $420. Similarly, Google Pixel 2 may see its launch during September - October 2017 with a price of about $700.
Clearly, premium smartphones of 2017 are going to be a lot bigger than previous years which had a mini 5-inch display version and a plus 5.5-inch display version.
