Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) after amendment as Health Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) provide new rights and protections to employee who
are participants and beneficiaries of group health plan. The said Act also provide protection for both
health coverage offered in connection with employment (group health plans) and for individual insurance
policies sold by insurance companies (individual policies).
