Sony smart speaker with Google Assistant support - Quick Review
Sony unveiled LF-S50G, its smart speaker that supports Google Assistant. Sony LF-S50G competes with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa smart speakers. The launch is expected to happen in October and would cost about $200. Two color choices will be available: black and gray.
Sony LF-S50G is splash-resistant (IPX3), with 360-degree audio experience, Bluetooth and NFC. Interestingly, the smart speaker also has gesture control for skipping tracks and adjusting volume while playing music.
With LF-S50G, users can play music from Google Play Music, Spotify and Pandora. It can also be used to know the weather and local news. Similar to Google Assistant, the Sony smart speaker must be connected to the Wi-Fi network.
Demand for smart speakers like Sony LF-S50G is on the rise. As per study conducted in March 2017, Amazon Echo and Echo Dot claim about 70% of the U.S. market while Google Home had a share of around 23%. That said, with the Google Assistant, now expanding with third-party manufacturers, the Echo may face a tough competition in the coming months.
