I’ve had a Kindle Fire 10 for almost couple of years and IMO it’s a great device as far as battery life and reading technologies are concerned. But apart from that, as a tablet, it’s not up to the mark - its pixel density is paltry 149 ppi, which is even lesser than the Basic Kindle. IMO buying the Fire HD 10 for $259 is not advisable. What’s your opinion?

To start with Amazon has always delivered devices that are more concerned about the utility than that of the device having a wonderful hardware. So let us dive deep and see what Fire HD 10 has to offer before you decide on what to buy.

Amazon Fire HD 10

Design:

The design of Fire HD 10 is a budget friendly one with a glossy black finish and a black bezel that surrounds the display which is 10".

Well, even when it is cheap, it is very much durable. Weighing 15.2 oz, it is a highly portable tablet. The buttons, as well as the ports of the Fire, are located on the left side. The power and volume buttons are found there as well as microUSB and headphone ports, and a microSD slot. So, you would not be limited to Amazon’s cloud storage but would also have an expandable memory with the microSD slot. The two speakers are located on the bottom, which is even more effective when you hold the device in landscape mode. Comes with a 5 MP rear-facing camera.

Audio and video:

Kindle Fire’s screen resolution is 1280 x 800 that is neither too good nor bad. Even when compared to the other tablets the display is good, especially while streaming Amazon's video service. And the color balance is good except sometimes the screen seems a little bright. Well, if you ask about the audio, it is really good for a tablet as they are pretty loud and clear. But it would not be able to compete with good headphones.

Software:

So, if you are ready to pay an extra $15 then you would get a lock screen free of ads. Do not crib about spending as they are worth the money spending for. The Fire OS is the operating system which is almost similar to Android. Some changes that you might note is that they have Amazon icons by default, new items that you downloaded recently.

While if you swipe the screen to the right you get the following icons books, video, games, apps, music, and audiobooks. Not only that there is also a page to shop.

Stand out features of Fire OS:

An x-ray that gives you contextual information about what you are looking for. Get information from IMDB when you are looking at a video and even lyrics to that video song.

  • Get video customer support when you have any issues with the device

  • Get one-month free subscription for Prime

Processor

Runs on a 1.5 GHz Quadcore processor that has a 1 GB of RAM. They are designed for basic usage and nothing more. Has a long battery life with 8 hours of battery life.

This is an ereader that anybody who wants a tablet as well as an ereader together would love. Priced at $229, it is cheap but is priced right. But if you want a full fledged tablet then please this should not be your choice.
