When the touchscreen of Kwikset 916 Z-Wave SmartCode Touchscreen Electronic Deadbolt is  not responsive:

Try activating the screen by touching the screen with either your palm or back of hand until you see the digits illuminate.

See whether you gave a one-second pause. Generally the lock would need a one-second pause after locking or unlocking for the touchscreen to re-activate. So resolve this issue by removing your hand fully from screen until you see the Checkmark or Lock symbol turn off. Then activate the screen once again.

Check whether the touchscreen is lockout. When you have typed in incorrect codes within one minute thrice then the touchscreen would be locked for 60 seconds. So, you can try after 60 seconds.
