Ebay guaranteed 3-day delivery on 20 million products

Ebay has announced a new program wherein all shoppers will get a guaranteed three-day delivery on 20 million eligible products which will be listed as free shipping ‘Guaranteed Delivery’. The program will be rolled out in summer, this year.

Commitment

Íntrestingly, to stand up to its commitment, if the product is not delivered within 3 days of purchase, eBay will refund the shipping cost. If the purchased product has free shipping cost, eBay will send a coupon towards next purchase. In case of returns, if the product arrive late (more than 3 days), the return charges will be waived off. 

Hal Lawton, Senior Vice President of eBay North America, has been reported to have said that the Guaranteed Delivery will give confidence to the shoppers that their items will arrive on time. 

For Sellers

eBay sellers have been provided with tools to facilitate them on shipment times and charges. In case of same day handling too, the sellers are given a cut-off time. This will help sellers, decide in advance, staff productivity, holidays and weekends. 

However, in order to get these additional tools for free, sellers will have to meet the terms and conditions of eBay for this ‘Guaranteed Delivery’ program. 

New UX

With regard to user interface, eBay is planning to provide a horizontal image carousels, with user’s recently viewed items and recommended items as per eBay’s algorithms. This will help shoppers to directly go for products they like instead of searching them manually. 

Conclusion

The success of Amazon and its Prime Membership program seem to have triggered eBay to announce this program. In fact, like in Amazon, at eBay too, shoppers can select 1-day or 2-day delivery before purchasing the item. 

Both Amazon and eBay might have realized that instant gratification to customers is top priority for online shoppers. This prioritization not only enhances buyers’ experience, but also bring in a healthy competition among online stores to serve the customers, better.
