Research and statistics show in most of the cases, men perpetrate domestic violence against
women. Domestic violence at home has its roots in power and control and is connected to issues of
fairness and gender. Profound established social conventions and qualities can add to the presence
of patriarchal perspectives that urge men to trust they are qualified for power and control over their
partner. However, it is becoming increasingly recognized that men can and do experience violence
from female partners and domestic violence can also happen in lesbian relationships.
